A Bohemian Summer Wedding In The Woods

 September 21, 2019

The most important thing to Colleen and Richard throughout their wedding day was simple: community. They wanted to keep their friends and family close, they wanted to involve the local vendor community in New England, and make sure it all happened over long, shared, family-style tables. The groom and his father built the custom risers to display all of the local, incredible food catered by Shovel and Spoon. The florals were a mixed of fresh and dried, and largely pulled from foraging, dying, and including unique pieces like asparagus ferns by Lemon and Tulips.

And best of all was our ring leader Danielle of Good Lookn whose impeccable taste for storytelling through event planning and design crafted the most glowing, woodsy, whimsical, fairytale, bohemian wedding that boasted family-style everything and honored the local communities and nature. Hardy Farm set the perfect atmosphere for these nature lovers and the day couldn’t have been more personal.

We designed custom save the dates featuring an illustrated story of Colleen and Richard’s relationship timeline, from the brownstone in Boston to their first trip together abroad (Japan) to the site of their proposal (Richard’s grandmother’s house). We based the invitations on a photo of the couple on a hike in the Pacific Northwest, and from there, their story evolved with their day-of papers. They sent me their favorite book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver in the mail and told me to tear out pages and paint the table numbers on them in deep green ink. The book theme continued with the custom bookmark place cards we designed, that Danielle hung from string in front of mirrors and ivy. The twirling was SO pretty.

Colleen and Richard’s life’s rhythms include carving out time to go to the farmer’s market together, cooking together, and sharing meals over the table together. The moment dinner was served, everyone was talking loudly, passing dishes around; their faces glowing in the candlelight. Colleen and Richard were looking at each other and laughing so hard that the bride was having a hard time actually taking a bite of her dinner. If that’s not a perfect wedding moment, I don’t know what is.
